The antiburgher congregation was disjoined from that of Craigmailen in 1762. It proved less successful than its Burgher rival founded twenty years later, and was in decline by 1800. In 1820 it was formally wound up. The final entry relates to the use of the Congregation's meeting house.

The minute-book commences with the original constitution of the 'maisteris, skipperis, marineris, and haill useris of the art of navigatioun within the burgh of Air', laid down on 28 August 1581, with tariffs of 'guidage'. The minutes deal chiefly with the provision of benefits to seamen's widows, etc. Later the society is called the Society of Merchant Adventurers, the Sailors’ Society, and other names.
